Application - Week 2

Hello, everyone. I am developing my GAME plan for our class application assignment. This is all very new to me, so I hope I am doing it correctly. The two indicators I have chosen fall under the categories of:

#1 Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
b. Teachers engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems
using digital tools and resources.
#2 Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
a. Teachers design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and
resources to promote student learning and creativity.

My Goals are the two indicators listed above. The Action I plan to take is continue with these classes in this program and find examples of technology that I have access to and I have time to teach my students. To Monitor, I will try out the various types of technology that I feel are appropriate for my students. To Evaluate and Extend, I will watch the students as they use the technology and see how well it works for them and with them. I will also discuss with them how well they liked using that piece of technology and how I can change things for the next time.

If any of my colleagues from class have any suggestions for me, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Like I said before, I can use all the help I can get. I look forward to hearing from you.

  1. Hi Tami-

How might you evaluate how the technology you are using is "working" for your students? In addition, how are you going to evaluate whether students like using the technology? Will you use a survey? If so try an online survey creater called Survey Monkey. It's easy to use and different so your students may enjoy it.

It seems we have the same two goals. I feel that these to are the hardest for many teachers that have been teaching for more than a few years because technology is a new tool in school.
How do you plan to monitor the achievement of your students. What are you going to use to measure their understanding of the curriculum and the technology?

  3. Tami,
I find it very useful to have my students reflect upon the technology I use in my classes. I also ask them for suggestions of technology they have used and how we could use it in my classroom. There is so much technology out there to use. It is amazing to me how far the internet has come over the last couple of years.

  4. Tami,
Might I suggest possibly choosing one technology? This way you as the teacher can become an expert in it, as well. This may ensure that you also incorporate another indicator, "Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional. "

  5. Danielle,
You made a very good point. I am missing some parts of my GAME plan. I need to find a way to evaluate if the technology is working for my students. One way I can tell is if they are able to complete the assignment and create the products required without a lot of problems. If we have to spend more time that I anticipated because they do not understand the technology, then I will know that things are not working. I do like the idea of your survey. Thanks so much for suggesting it. Do you have any other ideas on how to evaluate the technology? Thanks for your comments. I appreciate all the help I can get.

  6. Jennifer,
You raised the same question that Danielle did. I didn't realize that I had left that part of my GAME plan out. I am glad that you two found it. I was thinking about using the products from the projects as a way to evaluate the students. If the students have a real hard time completing the products because of the technology, then I will know that the technoloy is not working, too. Do you understand what I mean? If you have any other suggestions, I would really appreciate hearing them. Thanks so much for your comments.

  7. Scott,
Danielle brought up the idea of using a survey to find out how the students feel about the technology. I like that idea. How do you have your students reflect on the technology you use in your classroom? I have used discussions before, but not everyone participates. I would appreciate your comments. Thanks.

  8. Miss Ellis,
You make a very good point. That might be a wiser way to go. There are just so many great ones out there that picking one is so hard. I would love to try them all to see which one works best. How do you feel about that? Could I do that or just pick one myself? I want to do the right thing, but I want something that is going to work for my students, too. This gets so confusing sometimes. Thanks so much for all your help and advice. I really appreciate it.
